The NFL Draft is going on right now as I write this. I love Draft Day. I’m a huge Jaguars fan and we just grabbed offensive tackle Eugene Monroe. A solid pick and hopefully a guy who can help solidify our offensive line and improve the run game.
This draft is an interesting one because I actually run fan sites for four players in the draft: Michael Crabtree, Knowshon Moreno, Jeremy Maclin and Percy Harvin. We’re at pick 19 right now and so far Maclin and Harvin are still on the board. I’m not sure if Harvin will be taken in the first round because of his failed drug test, but there’s no denying he’s probably the most talented player in the draft.
I’m anticipating quite a traffic spike because of the draft and NFL fans trying to inquire about the players their team just drafted. Over the next few weeks I’ll have to update the fan sites to reflect their new NFL teams instead of the college teams. I’m not looking forward to it, but if I see some nice traffic and revenue spikes then I won’t dread it too much.
Let this be a lesson for you. If you plan on making fan sites for sports players, don’t pick someone who is already established. Odds are the player will already have 10 fan sites dedicated to them. I went out and gamble on a few freshman college players 2 years ago and now I’m reaping the rewards. I got lucky with the players I selected for fan sites because they all turned into superstars.
UPDATE: Jeremy Maclin was just selected No. 19.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and a great draft day! Go Jags!
