While browsing the Zappos blog in some down time, I came across a link to a website called Summit Post. Summit Post is climbing, hiking, and mountaineering resource website complete with featured hiking articles and pictures. Over the past few weeks I’ve been visiting Summit Post daily, and every day I have this desire to climb mountains.

I have lived in Florida almost my entire life (I was born in Texas and lived there until I was like 3 or 4 years old). Living in Florida has its advantages, such as the weather and close proximity to the beach, but we certainly don’t have any mountains close by. Northern Georgia has a few mountains, but that’s about 6-7 hours from here.

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit amazing mountain ranges and peaks such as the Grand Canyon, The Great Smokies, Grand Tetons, Mount Rainier, Jackson Hole and plenty of spots in the Rocky Mountain range in Colorado and Wyoming. However, none of those trips gave me the opportunity to truly hike and mountain climb. We never left the trails.

After reading the featured stories and seeing the amazing photos from these hiking trips, I really want to give it a shot. I’d love the challenge and the fight of just you vs. the mountain. A yearly hiking vacation might give me a quick fix, but I’m not sure it will feed my desire to become a mountaineer. I need to start making more money online… at least enough to buy a vacation home in Jackson Hole or Lake Tahoe.

Wonder if I could ever climb McKinley or Everest?
