Lots of times, I find myself designing sites around ads instead of content. It's a bad habit that I'm working on. Actually, I've found that designing for content first and ads second really makes a big difference. But, the money factor is really what makes web work interesting IMHO. Building a site with the potential to pull in thousands of dollars helps me along the way for sure. I think this is ok as long as it isn't completely obvious that the only goal of your websites are to make a buck.
