I’m still unhappy with the performance of my main Myspace resource site, Layout Pimps. With an average around 1,600 uniques/day, you’d think I could make a little more than $5.00/day from it.
So I’m making the move for a few days to Yahoo Publisher Network. I’m only moving this one site just as a test to see how well it performs. I’ve done this in the past, and didn’t see good results. Yahoo actually performed worse. My friend runs a myspace site on YPN and averages over $10 per 1,000 uniques. If those same proportions held true for my site, I would be earning around $16.00/day, which is a HUGE increase over where I’m at now.
I’m anxious to see how well Yahoo will perform, but I am not holding my breathe. I’ve never had good luck with it like so many people have. If I do see an increase, I may end up switching all my sites over to Yahoo. Their ad targeting sucks, but from what everyone says is that they pay out way better than Google.
Plus I have $45 sitting in my Yahoo account right now, so worse come to worse, I’ll let Layout Pimps sit in YPN until I reach $100 that way I get a payout, then move it back to Google so I can get a payout from them as well.
I will keep everyone posted on the performance of YPN on my site. The goal is to make more than $5.12/day. Since I made the switch just 5 minutes ago, I will not start keeping track until tomorrow so I have a full day to work with.

1Just to let you know David. I’m really interested to find out how much better Yahoo pays on a MS resource site. Waiting with bated breath.

2I heard people say something about ‘turning on Geo targetting’ to get the most out of YPN on arcade/myspace sites.
Just thought I’d mention it.

3Hi, I run a similiar site to yours, with 1600 uniques a day you should be 15$-45$/day with ypn unless your 1600 are mostly images on myspace profiles.
I get 8k uniques a day and make about 250$/day with ypn.
best of luck to you.

5hi,
as long as most of your traffic does not come from
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm
then you will be good to go.
hopefully you do well with ypn.
thanks,
jay

6Just to add a another perspective. I have a MySpace site that sees 4-5K uniques per day and pulls about $75-$90 daily on YPN. The fellow above hitting $250/day on 8K uniques seems to be doing exceptionally well – I wonder which channels?

8Jay, do you have any tips or recommendations about the ad placement I have on http://www.layoutpimps.net ?

9First.
ad block….
shopping.com
dealtime.com
and
cia.gov
then..use ad targetting
usually myspace sites use
online recreation for category
or online dating.
but you can choose what you want, make sure you choose something, dont let ypn choose for you.
get rid of alot of those related/hot links and stick a ypn spot there with same colored background as nav bar.
along top of homepage, you can use images next to the ads, as long as you put a line between images and ads. use a few images on left and stick a nice thick black line between them. images should be glitter/graphics/ ect….

10It is against YPN terms to have images near ads even with a black bar. That’s what I’ve been told.

11I must not be doing something right either David, my site only makes about $60-$100 a day off of 7k-8k uniques.

12I spoke to ypn, they said there is no problem with an image near an ad as long as there is a seperator between them and it is clear that the images are not part of the ads.
Jeff – is your 7k-8k uniques a myspace site and your using ypn ?
are you ad targetting ?

13Yeah it is a myspace site, and actually only about $45-$60 of that revenue comes from YPN so i definatelly am not doing something right and yeah i have tried various targetting categories and they all seem to be about the same.

15Google Adsense have better Ads targeting but YPN have better CPC. With YPN we can make more money by sending less visitors.

17[...] About 10 days ago I switched from Adsense to Yahoo Publisher Network. My initial findings were that I would make at least double what I had been making on Adsense for my site Pimp Myspace. A day or two later I thought I was misled about the success of YPN because I had some average days of only $7. So now it’s been 10 days and I feel I have solid data to look at and make my conclusions about YPN. [...]
